In Hanoi, a delegation from the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee and People\u2019s Committee, led by Secretary Nguyen Van Phuong, met with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to review the implementation of power generation and transmission projects in the province. The discussion also focused on measures to address bottlenecks in land clearance, administrative procedures, and capital mobilization to ensure a stable electricity supply for socio-economic growth. <\/em>.<\/p>\n

Accelerating power and grid expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the meeting, EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An reported that Quang Tri\u2019s total installed power capacity has reached around 1,555 MW, with wind power contributing more than 1,100 MW, forming a key pillar of the province\u2019s energy structure.<\/p>\n

EVN emphasized that, alongside the growing scale of power generation, synchronized investment in transmission infrastructure is essential to fully utilize capacity and prevent resource inefficiencies. In recent years, the Group has maintained a reliable power supply for local development, with strong growth in commercial electricity consumption. All communes and nearly all rural households in the province are now connected to the national grid. <\/p>\n

Regarding EVN-led projects, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant has surpassed 98% completion and is expected to begin commercial operation in 2026. The Quang Trach 2 LNG Power Plant has completed EPC contract signing and is progressing toward a 2030 operation target, while Quang Trach 3 LNG is in the process of finalizing investment procedures. <\/p>\n

On the transmission side, EVN is implementing key projects such as the Quang Tri 2 500 kV switching station, the Lao Bao 500 kV substation, and related transmission lines. However, several challenges persist, including land acquisition, forest land conversion, land valuation, and site clearance. <\/p>\n

EVN called on Quang Tri authorities to continue supporting land allocation, site clearance, and the completion of legal and environmental procedures, while enhancing coordination in planning and synchronizing generation with grid development.<\/p>\n

EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh noted that while preparation for many projects is largely complete, securing financing remains a significant hurdle, particularly as international funding for thermal power projects becomes more constrained. EVN is actively engaging with financial institutions and exploring diversified funding channels, including partnerships. At the same time, thermal power projects are being developed using modern, high-efficiency, and environmentally compliant technologies. In transmission, EVN is prioritizing expansion of the 500 kV network and studying HVDC applications to improve large-scale power transfer capacity. <\/p>\n

Representatives from EVN\u2019s Planning Department, EVNNPT, EVNPMB1, and EVNPMB2 also provided updates on project progress, highlighting ongoing issues related to investment procedures, environmental compliance, and coordination with local authorities.<\/p>\n

Enhancing coordination to overcome challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quang Tri Party Secretary Nguyen Van Phuong acknowledged EVN\u2019s contributions to ensuring electricity supply and supporting the province\u2019s socio-economic development. He noted that with the province targeting strong economic growth, electricity demand is expected to rise significantly, making timely implementation of major power projects essential. <\/p>\n

He also urged EVN to continue investing in grid infrastructure to facilitate renewable energy integration and ensure electricity access for rural and remote communities.<\/p>\n

Quang Tri authorities reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with EVN, particularly in site clearance, administrative procedures, and resolving implementation challenges.<\/p>\n

Addressing key concerns, EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An reiterated that financing remains the most critical challenge for power projects. For LNG developments, EVN is studying appropriate approaches to ensure compliance with regulations and project viability. The Group is also pursuing a diversified energy mix to strengthen energy security amid global uncertainties. <\/p>\n

EVN will continue directing its units to remove bottlenecks and accelerate progress, particularly for projects critical to power evacuation and regional supply, while coordinating with relevant agencies to complete procedures for transitional renewable energy projects.<\/p>\n
